The Roman L. Hruska US Meat Animal Research Center (USMARC) is recruiting for a Molecular geneticist/computational biologist to perform genomics research in swine. The incumbent will be responsible for research involving the genomic analysis of the interaction between feed efficiency and reproductive traits and/or the contribution of sequence variation to gene function. The incumbent will be a member of a team of scientists that develop genomic markers for economically relevant production traits. USMARC has a variety of next generation sequencing technologies that enables whole genome and transcriptome sequence analysis. The incumbent will be expected to explore the genomic interactions between feed efficiency and reproduction, and/or develop computational pipelines for genome and transcriptome assemblies, perform genotyping by sequencing and analyze genotype and sequence data from whole genome sequencing and RNA-seq. USMARC farrows approximately 900 litters per year from sows on which a variety of phenotypes are collected for genomic analysis. New swine facilities enable the collection of daily feed intake and weight data during critical developmental and reproductive stages to examine genomic interactions with reproductive traits. Requirements for the position include a PhD in genetics, computational biology or bioinformatics. Preference will be given to individuals with demonstrated research experience in the genomics of feed efficiency, reproductive or other complex traits, and/or DNA sequence analysis as it relates to economically relevant traits in swine.
